Here it is! The first challenge of the year. For the next seven days we will be giving up Netflix. Let’s see if we can do this.
Like most people we enjoy sitting in our living room in front of the TV and spending some time chillaxing. The majority of our Netflixing takes place during the evening and weekends when we have our free time. We fully believe it is important to take time to relax and rest throughout the week. But we also know it is easy to let some Netflix/relaxation time turn into a wasted evening or a series of wasted evenings.
The Rules: No Netflix from Sunday January 6th through Saturday January 12th at midnight (We will most likely be in bed before midnight, so any Netflix watching will take place the following day)
Potential Pros: We recently purchased and moved into our first home. Removing Netflix for a week could provide us with more opportunity to work on small projects around the house. We also have a list of books we are trying to read this year. No Netflix distraction means more time for reading and other fun things. It will also be nice to disconnect from the typical shows we watch and switch up our routine. Variety is the spice of life.
Potential Cons: Our evenings and weekends could feel a little vacant or even boring without our traditional time-filling pastime. We are in the middle of a few shows and it will not be fun to wait for some plot line resolutions until after this week. We are also a little nervous that the temptation will be there to fill the time with movies or social media time. Our goal this week is to use the additional time throughout the week to accomplish things and improve ourselves.
Clarification: Movies, YouTube, Social Media time, etc. is allowed. We will be trying to limit the usage, but it is not excluded during this challenge. We do not want to remove one form of media and simply replace it with another form of media. But we may watch a film at some point during the week.
There will be a follow up blog or Instagram post addressing how the week went. We will be addressing the pros and cons of the week. Feel free to ask questions along the way.
